COLUMBUS, Ohio-Caroline Farkas, a former teacher at Worthington City Schools, has launched a new educational television show titled “How It’s Math” on PBS. Produced through her company Doodles & Digits, the show aims to teach upper elementary students about math in real-world contexts using central Ohio businesses and locations. Farkas hopes to change perceptions about math by highlighting its relevance in daily life.
The program features Farkas and an animated “math chicken” exploring various careers and industries, with interviews from local businesses like Asterik Supper Club and Bake Me Happy. Farkas created the show after facing challenges in distance learning during the pandemic and realizing a lack of resources for upper elementary math education. Three episodes have already aired and are accessible on various platforms including the PBS app and YouTube channel. The show is sponsored in part by Scotts’ Miracle-Gro Foundation.
