FRANKLIN, Ohio-Franklin City Schools are undergoing a realignment, reducing the number of elementary schools from five to four due to the failure of an operating tax levy in March. Each school will now cater to specific grade levels, starting in August for the 2024-25 school year.
The realignment aims to evenly distribute class sizes, ensure curriculum consistency, and provide dedicated spaces for specials like art and music. Grades 6-7-8 will be housed in the Franklin Junior High School. The realignment is estimated to save $2.25 million annually through staff reductions and removal of modular buildings. The district plans to eventually construct new elementary schools funded by a bond issue passed in November 2020. The Anthony Wayne Elementary building is closing, and the Pennyroyal school building will be auctioned. The district does not plan to propose a tax levy until at least May 2025.
