COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, along with Lt. Governor Jon Husted and Development Director Lydia Mihalik, announced an additional $5.8 million in grant funding to protect Ohio families from lead poisoning. This funding will support lead mitigation and prevention projects in five more Ohio counties, bringing the total allocation for lead remediation to $90 million across 76 counties.
The Lead Safe Ohio program, established with $150 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds, aims to address lead hazards in properties built before 1978. Lead poisoning, primarily caused by lead-based paint, poses significant health risks, especially to children.
The program focuses on high-risk areas and low-to-moderate-income households, funding projects like waterline replacement, window and door replacement, and lead cleaning efforts. The administration emphasizes the importance of proactive measures to safeguard public health and create a healthier environment for future generations.
