Hoban Senior Creates Calming Room for Students in Distress

AKRON, Ohio-Archbishop Hoban High School Senior Grace Fricker presented her Girl Scout Gold Award project on April 30th to school administrators and guests. Fricker received a grant from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to create a calming room in Hoban’s Office of Student Services.

This room aims to support student well-being during mental distress and educate them on healthy coping skills. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest honor for Girl Scout seniors and ambassadors, requiring 80 hours of community work on a chosen issue. Fricker, a Girl Scout for 12 years, plans to study nursing at Bowling Green State University in the fall.
