COLUMBUS, Ohio-Arganise Kline, accompanied by her 11-month-old daughter Alivia, was among the early arrivals at the Statehouse to mark Ohio’s observance of the National Day Without Child Care. The rally, attended by a large crowd, emphasized two main points: the crucial role of quality child care in the workforce and the need for increased taxpayer investment, particularly as Ohio ranks low nationally in this regard.
Terri Sims, owner of Playtime Nursery School in Dayton, highlighted the dedication of child care providers and their contribution to the workforce. Kline, a first-generation college student balancing two jobs and college while caring for her daughter, shared her challenges with accessing affordable child care despite not qualifying for state assistance. She expressed frustration at the system’s lack of support for hard-working individuals like herself. Governor Mike DeWine has proposed initiatives to expand child care assistance in Ohio, including a new voucher program and funding for facility improvements.
