COLUMBUS, Ohio-Columbus City Schools (CCS) faced criticism from charter school families and leaders over its transportation policies, which excluded certain charter students from bus routes. Families were frustrated by late notifications and the impracticality of transportation arrangements. At a recent CCS Board of Education meeting, charter school leaders and affected families voiced their concerns, citing issues with communication and the impact on their daily lives. CCS attributed the changes to updates in the Ohio Revised Code and stated that notifications were sent out in June. In response to the issues, CCS has offered a financial payment option for families instead of transportation and allowed for mediation to resolve disputes. CCS transportation leaders indicated that adding additional routes would be financially burdensome and have chosen the penalty option instead.
