Investigation launched after Columbus police failed to ID missing girl during traffic stop

An internal investigation is underway at the Columbus Division of Police after officers failed to identify a missing girl during a traffic stop. A 12-year-old Columbus girl was reported missing by her mom July 16. Five days later, on July 21, the girl was present during a traffic stop, but police did not contact her parents and allowed her to leave without realizing she had been reported missing, police spokesman Sgt. Joe Albert told The Dispatch.
