MONROE, Ohio-Betsy Cole, an elementary school teacher with 29 years of experience, is retiring from Monroe Public Schools. Despite retirement, she plans to remain active with children, especially her grandchildren in Tennessee and Ohio, where she’ll enjoy the role of “Ammie.” Teaching runs in her family, and she’s cherished her time guiding young students, particularly in first grade where she’s seen remarkable progress in reading and writing.
Cole intends to continue helping children with reading, inspired by her daughter’s career as a kindergarten teacher. She reflects on the challenges of teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic and the joys of building a community with her students. Cole, originally from Seattle, moved to Michigan for her teaching career and found her passion in the classroom. She’ll miss her colleagues and the children but looks forward to the next chapter of her life.
