Judge Temporarily Halts Ohio Law Blocking Gender Affirming Care For Minors

April 17th, 2024-COLUMBUS, Ohio-A judge in Franklin County, Ohio, has temporarily halted a bill that banned gender-affirming care for minors and barred transgender athletes from participating in girls’ and women’s sports. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) argued in court that the bill, House Bill 68, violated the Ohio Constitution by covering multiple subjects.

The ACLU emphasized the importance of protecting LGBTQ+ rights and personal healthcare decisions. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost expressed intent to vigorously defend the law, stating it protects children from irreversible decisions. The ruling has both sides entrenched in their positions, with the possibility of the restraining order being extended in two weeks.
