COLUMBUS, Ohio-Sheryl Brown, a resident of Griggsview Court in Columbus, Ohio, was shocked to discover that her neighborhood was facing a situation similar to the eviction of immigrant tenants near Ohio State University. Peak Property Group, the new owner of her building and eight others on the street, issued eviction notices to tenants shortly after taking over, citing renovations.
Brown, along with other residents, expressed frustration over the sudden increase in rental rates and the lack of communication from Peak during the transition. Despite efforts to negotiate with Peak, tenants were given little choice but to move out, disrupting their lives in the middle of the school year. Peak, a subsidiary of Coastal Ridge Real Estate, declined to comment on the tenants’ concerns.
