Loudonville Teacher Resigns Following Investigation Into Alleged Misconduct

LOUDONVILLE, Ohio-The Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village Schools board accepted the resignation of teacher Alex Bates amid allegations of sexual harassment under Title IX and Board policies. Bates was placed on administrative leave in April 2023 and a subsequent investigation by the Loudonville Police Department closed without charges in January 2024.

However, the district continued its own investigation. Bates resigned effective May 13, 2024, and the board dropped its investigation, agreeing not to pursue disciplinary action. Allegations included an exchange of 142,375 text messages with a student during school hours, with some messages professing “love” to the student and involving inappropriate conversations about others. The district released a statement directing reporting of suspicious behavior to administrators, counselors, or the Safer Ohio Tipline.
