BEACHWOOD, Ohio-Beachwood police arrested a 32-year-old man from Garfield Heights for leaving his 9-year-old son alone in a hot car containing a loaded gun. A concerned passerby alerted police after finding the child crying and distressed in the car at Beachwood Place mall parking lot.
Despite the father claiming he was only in the mall for a few minutes, surveillance footage revealed he had been inside for over an hour. The car’s interior temperature was estimated to have reached 119 degrees, with no water available for the child. Police charged the father with child endangering and may add weapons charges related to the unsecured handgun found in the car.
