Mason Names Gideon Dudgeon as new Girls Basketball Coach, Pending Board Approval

MASON, Ohio-Gideon Dudgeon has been named the new girls’ basketball coach at Mason High School, pending board approval. He succeeds Rob Matula, who retired after coaching for 19 seasons. Matula, with a record of 376-98, was highly acclaimed, earning recognition as the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Division I girls’ basketball coach of the year.

Under Matula’s leadership, Mason had significant achievements, including multiple regional titles and district championships. Dudgeon, a long-time resident of Mason and a computer science teacher at Mason High School, served as a varsity assistant coach for the past five seasons. He aims to continue the program’s defensive mindset while valuing the personal growth of the players. Dudgeon brings extensive coaching experience, having coached at various levels and achieving success in turning around programs. He has coached numerous players who have gone on to earn college basketball opportunities.
