Member Who Resigned From Ohio Teachers’ Pension Fund Concerned About Controversial Investment Firm

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Steve Foreman, a member of Ohio’s State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) board, resigned due to concerns over allocating billions of dollars to what he described as an “illegitimate” investment firm. Foreman, representing active educators, voiced dissatisfaction with both the proposed controversial firm and the current investment system, which he deemed unsuitable for Ohio’s educators. He identified himself as “reform-minded,” aligning with a faction on the board advocating for financial reforms, particularly regarding investment strategies—choosing between actively managed funds aiming to exceed market performance and index funds that match market returns at lower costs.
