MIDDLETOWN, Ohio-The Middletown City School District has appointed Verlena Stewart to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Education. Stewart, who previously served on the board from October 2022 to December 2023, will replace Cathie Mulligan, who resigned due to worsening Parkinson’s disease. Mulligan, a longtime Middletown resident, had served on the board since 2018. Superintendent Debbie Houser expressed confidence in Stewart’s return, noting her dedication to student success. Stewart, currently the executive director of the Community Building Institute, expressed her sadness at Mulligan’s departure and her eagerness to contribute to the board once again.
