NORTH ADAMS, Ohio-Data released by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) indicates that 38% of public school leaders believe traffic patterns around schools pose a threat to students’ physical safety while commuting. Additionally, 85% of public schools have a formal group to identify potential risks for violent behavior among students, up from 82% in the previous school year.
NCES Commissioner Peggy G. Carr emphasized the importance of addressing transportation and emergency preparedness issues in schools, highlighting the findings as crucial for fostering supportive learning environments. Other highlights include the presence of school zones (83%) and crossing guards (41%) near public schools, as well as the frequency of emergency operations plan updates (92%).
