COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio lawmakers have introduced a bill aimed at safeguarding child influencers, emphasizing the need to protect children from exploitation on social media platforms. Representative Lauren McNally highlighted the importance of treating social media as a business and ensuring children’s rights and protections.
The proposed legislation mandates parents to allocate a portion of a child’s earnings from vlogs into a trust fund, accessible when they turn 18. Former child actor Alyson Stoner, endorsing the bill, underscored the significance of compensating children fairly for their online work and advocated for preemptive action to prevent exploitation in the evolving landscape of social media.
