Ohio Senator Wasn’t Sorry He Called Public School Socialism. He’s Trying to Dismantle It Now.

April 6th, 2024-COLUMBUS, Ohio-William L. Phillis, Executive Director of the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy of School Funding, highlights Andrew Brenner’s stance on public education. In 2014, while serving as vice-chair of the House Education Committee, Brenner referred to public schools as a form of “socialism.” He later apologized but didn’t retract his view. Brenner has advocated for privatization of public education through schemes like charter schools and vouchers, similar to practices seen in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc.
