OhioHealth Prepares High School Students for Careers in Health Care

COLUMBUS, Ohio-OhioHealth is collaborating with South-Western City Schools and Tolles Career and Technical Center to establish a work-based learning program addressing the healthcare workforce shortage. The initiative aims to create a pipeline for careers in pharmacy, medical assistance, and nursing.

Students like Justice Brown and Kiersten Dolby benefit from hands-on experience in roles like patient support assistants (PSAs), fostering career clarity and skill development. OhioHealth’s expanded hiring policy includes teenagers aged 16 and older, offering entry-level positions like PSAs to nurture future nurses. The program operates in several OhioHealth hospitals, providing internships with PSA roles paying $18 an hour and potential tuition assistance.
