Orange School District Reports Theft of $619,000 Due to Fraudulent Transaction

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio-The Orange City School District has filed a lawsuit to recover approximately $619,000 stolen through a fraudulent electronic funds transfer. Treasurer Todd Puster announced that the district discovered one of its vendors hadn’t received payment for services, prompting an investigation that confirmed the theft. Puster emphasized that no personal information of staff or students was compromised and that this financial loss would not impact student learning. The district has reported the fraud to the FBI and is working with its bank, legal counsel, and insurance company to recover the funds. Additionally, they are reviewing their internal financial controls to prevent future incidents.
