Revere Parents Express Concerns About new Board Policy

BATH, Ohio-During the May 21 Revere Local Schools Board of Education meeting, an overflow crowd expressed concerns about a new board policy regarding “Released Time for Religious Instruction.” Board President Keith Malick explained that LifeWise Academy had initially approached the district in October 2023, but Superintendent Michael Tefs denied their request.

The board received a request from Revere parents to adopt the policy. Concerns raised by parents included dissatisfaction with large organizations behind the effort, concerns about divisive ideology in LifeWise materials, disruptions to students and teachers, and potential marginalization of students from different religious backgrounds. The board decided to delay further discussion until after August 1 when the new superintendent, Daniel White, takes over. Additionally, Treasurer Rick Berdine presented a positive five-year financial forecast, citing increases in projected tax revenue and state funding, with no anticipated need for additional levy requests during the period.
