RIVERSIDE, Ohio-Riverside High School football players continued a longstanding tradition of promoting literacy by visiting elementary school classrooms. The 2024 Literacy Linemen program involved 21 players who met academic, behavior, and attendance criteria. During their May 14 visit to all four district elementary schools, they read stories to students.
The program aimed to instill a love of literacy and create a culture where reading and writing are encouraged. Organizers emphasized literacy as foundational to individual and community success. The younger students treated the players like celebrities, while older students engaged in Q&A sessions. The program provided players with community involvement opportunities and taught them strategies for reading and interacting with elementary students.
