GROVEPORT, Ohio-The president of the Groveport Madison School Board, LaToya Dowdell-Burger, has responded to criticism directed at board member John Kershner for a social media post deemed racist by some. Kershner’s comments about district diversity included the phrase, “As long as diversity is one color, we are rocking it,” which sparked backlash. Dowdell-Burger expressed disappointment, emphasizing the importance of supporting the diverse community within the school. Nana Watson, president of the local NAACP, labeled Kershner’s remarks as racist, while Kershner denied any wrongdoing, insisting his intentions were misunderstood. The NAACP has since sent a letter to the school board requesting a public apology from Kershner, a review of board conduct, and diversity training—training Kershner has publicly rejected.
