Second Lady of the United States, Usha Vance, joined Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine at the Ohio State Fair to celebrate Vance’s Second Lady Summer Reading Challenge, which encourages children to keep reading over their summer break. At Monday’s event, Vance and DeWine spoke about the importance of early literacy. Vance created the Second Lady Summer Reading Challenge, which is geared toward children in kindergarten through eighth grade, according to the White House. The challenge encourages children to continue learning throughout the summer by reading 12 books of their choice.
