SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, Ohio-Don Diglia, former superintendent of Elida schools, will become the new superintendent for Shawnee schools starting in August, replacing Jude Meyers who retired. Diglia brings experience from leading various school districts, expressing enthusiasm for addressing challenges and building on the district’s strengths.
Shawnee faces financial difficulties and aging infrastructure, with plans to deplete cash reserves by 2026 and buildings dating back to the early 20th century. Despite this, Diglia aims to work with the district immediately to develop strategies for long-term success. Additionally, Dean Wittwer, former superintendent of multiple districts, will assist in developing financial plans for Shawnee schools, aiming to ensure fiscal stability and prioritize financial health.
