SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, Ohio-Don Diglia has been appointed as the new superintendent for Shawnee schools, effective August 1st, replacing Jude Meyers who retired in July. Diglia, formerly the superintendent of Elida schools, brings experience from leading various school districts. He acknowledges the challenges ahead for Shawnee, including financial concerns and aging infrastructure, but expresses confidence in overcoming them with a dedicated team.
Shawnee faces financial strain, with projections showing depletion of cash reserves by 2026. The district’s aging buildings, some dating back to the 1920s, add to the challenges. Despite officially starting in August, Diglia will begin working with the district immediately. Additionally, Dean Wittwer, a former superintendent, will assist in developing financial plans for Shawnee schools to address their fiscal challenges.
