AMELIA, Ohio-Amelia Elementary School was placed on lockdown Friday afternoon following a threat made to the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The caller claimed he was at the school, about to kill himself, and had planted explosives set to detonate within 45 minutes. Deputies quickly responded, cleared the school and surrounding areas, and found no explosives. The lockdown lasted until shortly before the normal dismissal time, and bus operations were unaffected. The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the origin of the threat and attempting to identify the responsible party. Cybersecurity expert Dave Hatter noted this method of making threats is unusual, referring to it as a new form of “swatting,” where false reports are used to divert emergency resources.
