A bill being introduced in Columbus could require Ohio students to go to school longer. The minimum school year is 1,001 hours, but that could change. New Richmond State Representative Adam Bird said that math and reading scores aren’t proficient, so being in school longer could fix that. He’s looking to increase the required hours to 1,055 or 175 days, depending on the length of the school day. Bird said that it’d be up to each district to figure out how many snow days or calamity days they can have and still meet the required hours.
