Task Force Recommends Columbus City Schools Board Close Nine Schools, Realign Four

COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Columbus City Schools Superintendent’s Community Facilities Task Force has recommended nine schools for closure and four others for grade realignment to the school board. The recommendations include closing six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school building. The board voted unanimously to accept these recommendations but plans to gather more community feedback before making final decisions. Superintendent Angela Chapman emphasized the focus on improving educational quality and facilities for students despite the difficult nature of these decisions. The task force’s recommendations aim to provide broader academic and extracurricular opportunities through school consolidations and realignments across the district.
