Teenager arrested after firing at officers with rifle in southeast Columbus, per police

A 17-year-old boy with a criminal background has been arrested after a shootout with police Thursday morning on the Southeast Side.

Sgt. Joe Albert said officers were called to the 1000 block of Lockbourne Road just before 11 a.m. after reports the boy was threatening to shoot his girlfriend. Moments after officers arrived, the teenager fired at officers from a rifle and ran away.

During the chase, officers found the boy in an alley, where he and officers exchanged gunfire. The chase continued, and officers were able to take the teenager into custody nearby at East Columbus Street. He was taken to a hospital after complaining of chest pain and later released and taken to police headquarters. He will face a charge of felonious assault against an officer.
