‘They Have Made This Political’: Students, Parents Protest Forest Hills BOE’s Vote Against Diversity Day

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio-Protesters gathered outside the Forest Hill School District’s central office after the board of education decided to suspend Turpin High School’s diversity day, citing concerns over its content. The event, previously postponed for parents to review, was accused of being canceled due to its focus on CRT and social justice. Students involved in planning expressed disappointment and concern over the decision, fearing for the safety and acceptance of students.

The event, held for years to highlight cultural and racial issues, includes activities and guest speakers, requiring parental permission for attendance. Board members raised objections to the event’s planned activities and speakers, deeming it political indoctrination. However, students argue that the day aims to broaden perspectives and is not about politics. The area and district are noted as predominantly white, with students emphasizing the importance of understanding diversity beyond their community.
