Two Sentenced for 16-Year-Old’s I-270 Shooting Death Tied to Spanish Cobra Gang

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Two men were sentenced for their involvement in the fatal shooting of Dominic Rodriguez, a Franklin Heights High School student. On August 13, 2020, Rodriguez, 16, was shot while riding in a car on Interstate 270. The shooting occurred during a highway chase involving Levi Santiago, then 14, and Eulises Marquez, 21, who were both linked to the “Spanish Cobras” gang. The incident followed a drug transaction between Rodriguez, Santiago, and Marquez. After Rodriguez and his companion attempted to evade Marquez and Santiago’s vehicle, shots were fired, hitting Rodriguez and another teen. Rodriguez died from his injuries on September 4, 2020. Marquez pleaded guilty to intimidation of a witness, involuntary manslaughter, and felonious assault. Santiago entered an Alford plea to involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault, acknowledging the evidence against him without admitting guilt.
