WESTERVILLE, Ohio-Cooper Nofal, a 17-year-old Westerville North High School student, died from traumatic brain injuries sustained in a minibike accident. An autopsy report revealed that he had marijuana in his system above the legal limit for driving in Ohio. The report indicated a THC concentration of 8.2 nanograms per milliliter, surpassing the legal limit of 2 nanograms per milliliter.
Although there were no traces of alcohol or other drugs in his blood, the toxicology report highlighted the presence of marijuana metabolite exceeding the legal threshold of 5 nanograms per milliliter. Ohio, among six states, has established THC limits for operating a vehicle while impaired, prompting debates regarding the reliability of blood and urine tests in assessing impairment, especially as marijuana legalization expands.
