COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Superintendent’s Community Facilities Task Force presented nine different scenarios at a Columbus City Schools board meeting, outlining the possibility of closing twenty schools out of more than 110 buildings. These scenarios involve various ways of relocating students, including moving programs, consolidating schools, or shutting down buildings.
Superintendent Angela Chapman emphasized that these are initial recommendations, and community feedback will influence final decisions to be made in June. Before the meeting, members of the Columbus Education Association and district parents expressed concerns about what they perceived as rushed recommendations to close and consolidate buildings. The high turnout necessitated the opening of an overflow room for attendees to view the meeting.
