WHITEHALL, Ohio-The Whitehall Division of Police are warning residents about a registered sex offender named Daniel Shope who was allegedly taking videos of women and young girls at local stores and parks. On October 20th, a young girl reported to Walmart staff that a man was following her closely and she felt uncomfortable. When police reviewed the video, they believed the man, later identified as Shope, had tried to “upskirt” or record a video up the skirt of the young girl. When police searched Shope’s phone, they found dozens of videos, including 15 videos from the Walmart incident as well as videos of him recording people at a park and a convenience store. Shope is a registered sex offender who was found guilty of third-degree sexual battery in 2014 and was also arrested for public indecency in 2021. Police believe there could be tens or even hundreds of victims and are continuing to investigate to identify more potential victims. Shope is currently out on bond and police say more charges are likely to be filed against him.
