Why is Looking at a Solar Eclipse Dangerous without Special Glasses? Eye Doctors Explain.

Cleveland, Ohio – The solar eclipse will be visible to millions of Americans today April 8, 2024, making many excited to see it, but how you look at it matters, since it can be dangerous for your eyes.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, blocking the sun’s light. When the moon blocks some of the sun, it’s a partial solar eclipse, but when the moon lines up with the sun, blocking all of its light, a total eclipse occurs. Either way, you need eye protection when viewing.
