Young, gifted, wordsmiths — Cleveland teens turn everyday language into art at Poetry Slam: Justice B. Hill

I’m always amazed when I think of how boys and girls can stand on a stage and spell words I’ve never heard of and will likely never use in any stories I might write. Think of the words they spelled at the latest National Spelling Bee: aurore, corbicula, éclaircissement, infula, idempotent and reseda. Enough to fry their nerves or drive them into fits of frustration. But I applaud them for their dedication to learning words, even when the words are useless ones.
