Ohio’s Youth Hunters Check 1,785 Wild Turkeys; Local Girl Tags Hers

COLUMBUS, Ohio-During Ohio’s special youth-only wild turkey hunting weekend on April 13-14, 2024, youth hunters checked 1,785 birds, exceeding the three-year average of 1,466 birds. The season, open to hunters 17 years old and younger, required adult supervision and issued 6,539 permits for the 2024 hunting season.

The top 10 counties for turkey harvest included Tuscarawas, Noble, and Washington. Notable among the hunters was 10-year-old Ada Archer from Bellefontaine, who bagged her first turkey during Logan County’s youth season. The general turkey hunting season for all ages begins on April 20 and April 27 in the northeast zone, with specific dates varying by region.
