SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP, Ohio-Lakeside High School and Junior High are launching a new digital hall pass system called SmartPass after successful pilot testing. This app-based system replaces paper hall passes and tracks students’ locations and movements in the hallways, though it does not use GPS. It helps manage student whereabouts, reduces hallway traffic, and enhances safety during emergencies. The system is seen as a major improvement over the previous paper method and has garnered interest from other school districts. This rollout coincides with new legislation aimed at reducing cell phone distractions in classrooms. Students are set to return on August 21.
