STEWART, Ohio-At the Federal Hocking Board of Education’s May 21 meeting, concerned parents, students, and staff voiced their worries about the district’s budget deficit. Superintendent David Hanning’s resignation, effective July 31, was also announced during this meeting, although it’s unrelated to the financial issues.
Despite a previously stated purpose to review a deficit reduction plan, there’s no such plan in place, according to FHBOE Treasurer Bruce Steenrod. However, Steenrod confirmed that the district is projected to operate with a deficit of approximately $666,360 in the next fiscal year, a situation not unfamiliar to the district.
