LIMA, Ohio-Lima City Schools are hosting summer camps designed to keep students engaged and learning through fun activities and field trips. These free camps take place at students’ home schools and aim to combat “summer learning loss,” or “extinction.” Teacher Mike Freed noted that the camps help maintain students’ knowledge and readiness for the upcoming school year. Current activities include the Candy Land Camp at Lima North Middle School, where students explore the history of candy while learning about the scientific method and STEM projects, culminating in a field trip to Spangler’s Candy Factory. Students enjoy the educational experience, highlighting both learning and fun.
