Middletown Schools to Enact Sweeping Redistricting of Grades, Buildings

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio-The Middletown School District is considering significant changes that would affect thousands of students by redistricting younger grade levels. The plan aims to shift all seven elementary schools from a K-5 model to K-6. Superintendent Deborah Houser explained that this initiative is designed to better allocate district resources, enhance neighborhood school attendance for kindergarten and elementary students, and balance enrollment across schools. Currently, over 3,300 students are enrolled in K-6 classes. The change is also intended to optimize facility use and ensure financial responsibility. Although there is no specific plan for the existing 6th-grade center, it will no longer serve only sixth graders.
