OSU Students Question Why They did not Receive an Alert About University District Standoff

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio State University students living off-campus were alarmed when they didn’t receive a safety alert about a standoff that occurred nearby. On Sunday morning, students heard gunshots as police responded to a burglary involving Asante Miller, who was armed and eventually barricaded himself in a house. Miller died during the standoff, though it’s unclear if the cause was self-inflicted or from police fire. Students, including Emma Maier and Kartik Guru, expressed concern over the lack of a university alert about the incident, feeling that communication could have helped them stay informed and safe.
