CINCINNATI, Ohio-On Wednesday afternoon, numerous students were seen at the Oakley Transit Center after exiting METRO buses. While some waited for their next ride, others jaywalked across busy streets, causing drivers to stop abruptly. Police received reports of potential harassment at a nearby smoothie shop, involving a group of around 30 teens. In response to rising concerns about misbehavior at transit centers, Cincinnati’s police chief recently emphasized that students should be held accountable beyond just police intervention. Officers were present at the transit center but did not stop students from crossing the street improperly. The Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) is working to monitor behavior at bus stops, though not daily, and is collecting data on student bus usage to ensure proper use of bus cards. A forum is planned for next month to allow teenagers to discuss improvements for the transit center experience.
