The Great Bay Middle School Rake-Out sees Bay Village Students Helping to Rake the Leaves of Seniors

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio -In Bay Village, the annual tradition of students from Bay Village Middle School raking leaves for seniors has become a beloved event. Each November, nearly 700 students, along with parents and guardians, volunteer to rake leaves for elderly residents who may struggle with the task. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the “rake out,” a community service effort that provides relief and a sense of connection. Principal Sean McAndrews notes the students’ enthusiasm for the event, while parent judge Jack Ahern praises their hard work. For students like 6th grader Rory Dilland, it’s a chance to contribute to the community while having fun. The initiative brings together generations, with residents like Ken Mackin grateful for the help in managing the season’s leaves.
