COLUMBUS, Ohio-Democratic state Representatives Anita Somani and Michele Grim introduced House Bill 565 in Ohio’s Finance Committee, aiming to regulate pregnancy and parenting centers that receive state funding but are not currently regulated by the state.
The bill seeks to ensure these centers meet guaranteed standards of care, provide accurate medical information, and use state funds appropriately. These centers, often religiously affiliated and known as crisis pregnancy centers or pregnancy resource centers, have faced criticism for alleged misrepresentation of services. The bill follows concerns raised by a 2023 study in central Ohio about the adequacy and priorities of these centers.
