MT. HEALTHY, Ohio-A state performance audit of the Mount Healthy City School District reveals a worsening budget deficit, projecting it to exceed $90 million by 2028. Despite recommendations, the audit suggests the deficit cannot be fully eliminated even with full implementation.
The district’s fiscal watch status was upgraded to “fiscal emergency” in April, following the discovery of inaccurate deficit projections. Reports from the district showed increasing deficits over time, with discrepancies between forecasts. The district attributed inaccuracies to the former treasurer and pledged to improve budgetary planning processes. The audit highlights the district’s use of emergency relief funds for hiring teachers without a sustainable plan, contributing to its financial challenges. As a result, the district has entered the “last and most severe stage” of financial solvency problems.
