Canton City Public Health warns of an Increase in Positive West Nile Virus Mosquitos

< 1 min read

CANTON, Ohio-Canton City Public Health (CCPH) has reported an increase in West Nile Virus (WNV) cases after two mosquito samples tested positive. These samples, collected in early July from Weis Park and near 11th Street and Whipple Avenue Southwest, bring the total number of positive tests to seven. WNV is a leading mosquito-borne illness in the U.S., and symptoms can include fever, headache, and rash. Although there are no human cases reported in Canton yet, CCPH is continuing its efforts to control mosquito populations through larviciding and removing stagnant water. Residents are advised to take protective measures against mosquito bites.
