April 12th, 2024-WARREN, Ohio-Trumbull County Children Services has launched its annual ‘Pinwheels for Prevention’ campaign in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. The campaign features over 1,100 pinwheels, with each representing a reported case of child abuse in Trumbull County in 2023.
These pinwheels symbolize not only the incidents of abuse but also the adults who advocate for children by reporting suspected abuse or neglect. Officials highlight signs of child endangerment, such as withdrawn behavior or significant changes in a child’s demeanor. Marilyn Pape, Executive Director of Trumbull County Children Services, emphasizes the importance of reporting suspicions of child abuse, with all calls to Children Services being confidential and crucial in ensuring children’s safety. According to the Center for Disease Control, 1 in 7 children experienced abuse or neglect in the last year.
