Father Sentenced to 12 Years After Drug-Related Death of Infant

BELMONT, Ohio-Cameron Jovan Cothran, 38, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in the drug-related death of his baby. He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence, and possession of a fentanyl compound. During the sentencing, the baby’s grandmother provided a victim impact statement, while Cothran’s relatives spoke about his struggles with substance abuse and their remorse. Prosecutor Kevin Flanagan highlighted Cothran’s failure to protect his child, emphasizing that the child will never have a future due to his actions. Judge John Vavra sentenced Cothran to the maximum term, considering his criminal history, substance abuse pattern, and lack of genuine remorse.
